Cotton clothing decomposes so
fast that it gets caught in your body hair and migrates in the direction
your body hairs on the abdomen are pointing ---> the belly
button.
Body builders who indulge in total body shaving will not
suffer from this dreaded malaise.

Your clothes. If you have a
clothes dryer, take a look at the lint filter - the colour of the lint
there is roughly the same.
A self sacrificing soul has done the
science and determined that the hairs around your navel aid in the
collection and entrapment of the lint. He shaved for 10 cm around his
navel and collected no more belly button lint.

True. Pity
that the smell isn't.

My son Sam who is 5 asked
me...
"Dad, why is their always blue fluff in your belly
button?"
Good question I thought!...I told Sam that the hairs
around my bellt button probably caught bits of fluff from my clothes
during the day (or from the sheets at night), and that the bits slowly
made their way into my belly button !
...Sam's right, it does seem
to be predomonantly pale blue in colour!!
...any
thoughts?

Yes, Sam's right. The blue tinge
comes from the average colour of short fibres broken off your clothes. If
you have a clothes dryer then check the lint filter for more examples:
since only clothes go in the dryer, the fibres can only come from the
clothes. You may also see lint filters in washing
machines.

Just an anecdote - I recently had
a big operation where I was told I would not have a bellybutton when they
finished.
Imagine my suprise when the bandages were removed 2
weeks later to reveal a completely rebuilt surgicly enhanced bellybutton!
(The surgeons must have had some time left over)
This was about 5
months ago, and my internals have almost come good and I pulled the first
lint out of it the other week showing the operation was a
success!
