What is
a Higgs Boson?
From: James R (Avatar)
The Higgs Boson is a theoretical particle which gives every
massive particle its mass. It hasn't actually been detected yet, but
scientists are looking for it.
It is impossible to accelerate any
object with mass up to the speed of light. However, everything with zero
rest mass automatically travels at the speed of light. Therefore, if we
could find some way to play with Higgs bosons so as to remove the mass
from things, we'd have a way of instantaneously accelerating things to the
speed of light, perhaps.
This is a pretty far-fetched idea right
now, and nobody has the foggiest idea of how to remove mass from things
without chopping bits off.
