It is caused by the uncontrolled
release on KUNDALINI through the main chakras. This is why arms and legs
remain because these only have minor
chakras.

I saw a recent-ish doco about
this, the theory was that the body is like a human candle, the body fat is
like the wax and the clothes is like the wick. Basically people fall
asleep with lit cigarettes or catch a spark from a fireplace. The fire
burns slowly (and low) for hours and hours. The fat is the thing that's
burning and because it's low intensity nothing else gets touched (ie other
furniture etc). They tested it with a pig wrapped in fabric and it worked
a charm. The person is initally killed by smoke inhalation I think. The
fire burns so low but for so long that all parts completely burnt (the
bits that are left ie arms and legs are thought to have had no clothes
covering them). It sounds convincing and the pig experiment was pretty
impressive. Caroline

Spontaeous human combustion, i
read the other thread, but i feltthiswasa different tack on the subject
and so a new thread.
One thought is the SHC, is like bundles of
hay that just burn for no reason. The hay i the paddock heats up (from the
sun beaming on it) and the centre of the hay is hotter than the outside
(compacted mass, itdoes happen try it with some grass, the centre is
hotter) and so it burns from the inside out. So making it a very fast
burn, as it burns in all directions from the centre.
It is
suggested that the same happens in Humans. Though some chemical reaction?
People have theorised the Water molecules are some how seperating and thus
a huge amount of energy released.
Like thre hay, it has been
thought that the body heats up some how internally? and we just burn, and
since the burn is all internal, there is no burn marks on the surrouding
environment. The pig experiment in the other thread,is not a true
reason. From the ashes of people found to be burned alive, the fire has to
have been very hot to decay bones etc.., in only a few seconds,
(forensics.) Certainly not the heat from from a ciggy. Which take ages to
burn a human to ashes.

As I recall, the spontaneous
combustion of hay is thought to be due to simple exothermic reaction of
organic decomposition - i.e. the rotting of the hay can sometimes give off
just enough energy that at some point in the stack it get hot enough to
catch on fire.
In contrast humans don't decompose when they are
alive, and the blood supply to ever part of our bodies acts as an
extremely efficient heat sink, so that the chances of any part of it
getting hot enough to spontaneously combust are unlikely. There have been
suggestions that it might be caused by a freak bacterial infection (in
which case it would be in some ways similar to the spontaneous combustion
of breaking down hay), however, this is nothing more than speculation as
no such phenomena is known in other living animals, and you can provide
much more probable reasons than an unknown bug.
Interestingly, most
cases of spontaneous human combustion that did not involve the probability
of murder, usual occured to people who were either alcoholics, or elderly,
or both, and as I understand it smokers. The most probable cause
for SHC is then of individuals falling unconcious (often alcohol induced)
while smoking or while near an open fireplace, and some of their clothing
catching on fire. When this happens, their body tissues, and in particular
fat, melts in the area of the fire on their clothing and causes a wicking
effect, so that they don't actually break into a tremendous flame, but
slowly burn away like a human candle. This behaviour, which has been
recreated by scientists using the corpse of a dead pig, explains all the
telltale signs of spontaneous human combustion. It explains why often just
their feet remain, and there is usually not enough clothing around the
bottom of the legs to act as a wick. It explains how the bones manage to
break down (the bones of the "test pig" broke down over the course of the
experiment due to the length of burning time). It explains why objects
near the person often go completely unscathed (like dinner guests around a
candle lit table). Basically it explains vastly more of the evidence than
any other SHC theory, and it has been demonstrated experimentally, so
Occams Razor suggests that this is the most likely cause.

Why the use of "forensics" there spud? The word "forensic"
has nothing whatsoever to do with science, although you can certainly have
"forensic science" as well as forensic pathology, forensic linguistics
etc. Barristers and judges even wear forensic wigs. The main culprits for
ascribing a meaning of science to the word forensic are the various police
forces, followed closely by TV cop shows and from there to journalists who
can't be bothered using a dictionary, so I'm not blaming you.

Sorry, yes by forensics i did
mean the scientists, whodo that sortof thing. The Pig does prove how
humans may be able to burn, but what about the other cases, what about the
peoplewho are not smokers, drinkersof alcohol. Or those who have died
during the day, not near a fire place? They could be Urban myths, but i
think all the cases of SHC, could not just happen to a select few
(smokers, alcoholics). There needs to be more experimental evidence, than
putting a pig near a fire place and watching it burn. To explain why
people burn up when there is visible cause of the fire.
