5, 10, 20 and 50 cent pieces are 75% copper, 25% nickel.
1 and 2 dollar coins are 92% copper, 6% aluminium and 2% nickel.

POLYMERS/MONOMERS/PLASTIC

Can anyone give me any "recipes" for different polymers and/or plastics

What is a biopolymer?
I'm just wondering what's the difference between a polymer and a biopolymer?

Can someone explain in simple terms what process transforms the coal into the chains of hydro-carbon molecules for plastic, or is that a stupid question

Chemical Materials

What is done with recycled plastics at the moment?
Are Belland Plastics available? Who makes them, uses them and how?
Plastic recycling

Researchers at the University of Illinois say they've developed a "self-healing" form of plastic designed to extend the life of everyday items without drilling, plugging, patching or sanding.
Self healing plastic

On the bags it said that when they were exposed to enough UV light (didn't say how much) the plastic would start to break down. Has anyone else seen these, and if they really are this good?
Biodegradable plastic

GLASS

If the glass is not allowed to cool over a very long period of time it will crack or even break, if the glass is cooled rapidly it will even shatter or explode. What causes this?

Red hot metal

How did blacksmiths in times way back overcome the problem of brittle iron?
Brittle Iron

The jeweler told me that if he had makes a 18ct ring it will wear longer than a pre-fab one. His reasoning is that the hand-hammering makes it tougher and more wear resistant. Could this be true?
Work hardening

What determines the colour of some metals?
Metals colour?

When a metal such as iron is poured from the melt does it have a crystal structure and how important is the nature of the pouring and the structure of the metal influence the end use of the metal?
