Synthetic material: material made from synthetic fibre, that is, fibre that does not exist in nature. Rayon is an example.

A monomer is a chemical species that can be polymerised to make a polymer e.g. ethylene.

A polymer is a chemical species made by joining together a whole swag of monomers via polymerisation. e.g. polyethylene.

Polymerisation is the act of sticking together a bunch of monomers to make a polymer.

DV... I think that definition for synthetic material is a bit too case-specific. A synthetic material is basically anything that is synthesised... made by human hands as opposed to a natural occurance
