can anyone help with a corrosion
problem . The waterpipes ,copper and other metalic types are corroding in
our local area from inside outward. The green blue coloured corrosion is a
very costly problem to fix have any idea why this is happening. its not
electrollysis and not caused by chlorine in the water
???

Green/blue says to me copper
compounds. That is, something is oxidising the copper. Why do you say it
is not the chlorine? Very good oxidising
agent!

probablly to do with some type of
electrochemical affect with local ground water or soil causing the
transfer of electrons from the soil side to the mains water side through
the metal pipes causing some free ions to attack the copper, can't think
drinking to much copper could be good for you
either.

I agree with Terry it sounds like
the Copper is going into solution. But I need more information before I
can start working out whats happening. Are the pipes fairly new. What is
the source of the water (cave water is often blue / green in colour).

It could be caused by acidic
ground water but it also could be caused by electric current in the
ground. perhaps near train lines. Some country supplies use single wire
supply and the earth as one conductor are you in such an
area.

Do the family or neighbours use
hair driers a lot? These power devices have a diode for the half-speed
setting, and http://www.suburbia.com.au/~mickgg/blue-green.htm
look what I did with a diode!. We live and learn, or die by
our mistakes!

Could this be why the hot water
tap in the shower used to give off electrical vibes? ( can't think of a
better way to describe it. It wasn't a zap, but a tingle.) This was in a
house @40 years old.
