Hi All, To resolve an issue between arguing friends, we would like to know if it is at all scientifically/biologically possible for a woman to conceive a child, if the couple do not actually engage in sexual intercourse, ie are (obviously) fooling around enough to have some kind of orgasm but the actual "act" is not performed.
Can sperm survive close to the entrance of the vagina, or could pre-ejaculatory fluids be enough to cause conception, even if the intercourse wasn't "complete".
Wierd question I'm sure, but friends claim it happens and we have no idea if it is possible!!!
Thanks

I will stick my neck out,

No.

The sperm will have to be supplied reasonable deep into the vagina, close enough to the cervix to be able to acknowledge the chemical signals leading the spermatozoa towards the egg to recognize the passage into the Os.

There will have to be sufficient sperm supplied to reach the egg in numbers such that the enzymes released by the sperm are able to break down the chemical coating of the oocyte. This number is beleived to be between a few hundred and 1000. Only one sperm gets in , but it is a major cooperative effort between many sperm to access the egg.

The pre-ejaculatory fluids are more lubricant and 'cleansing' in nature and usually contain no sperm. If they do, you should get your system checked out. IF no sex (physical penetration)occurs, the sperm may be gained access to the Os (the opening of the uterus is the cervix, and the passage into the uterus is the Os) by using a turkey baster or other 'pippetting' device.

There have been other reproductive threads in this forum, check in the previous threads and the archives for more info concerning the fertility cycle of the female. This is also very important, more important than just having the sex.

I hope this helps Bob,

Paul

This sums up all I've heard on this subject (comments in parentheses mine):

Yes, there is definitely a chance of you becoming pregnant by your
boyfriend's pre-ejaculatory fluid even if his (wossname) is not touching
your (other wossname) The ejaculatory fluid contains sperm, which is
enough to cause pregnancy.

Withdrawal. This method relies on the male partner withdrawing his (thingy)
before he ejaculates.

Drawbacks : Your partner must be able to control his ejaculation,
which can be difficult. Even if he is able to do this, pre-ejaculatory fluids
may carry sperm. It does not protect against STDs.

Effectiveness: The rate of unplanned pregnancies is 18-25 per 100 women.
